The Institute participes in World Patient Safety Day

Led by WHO, the 2nd World Patient Safety Day will occur next 17th of Septembre. The Toulouse University Cancer Institute-Oncopole takes part in the event through a joint film made by patients and caregivers of the Institute, entitled “Ensemble sécurisons”.

The film "Ensemble Sécurisons" is the result of patients and caregivers experiences shared and formalized during workshops. 3 key situations are shown: chemotherapy administration, risky care act, home return. For each one, good practices are detailed from both sides.

The event is the opportunity to highlight the cooperation between the Institute and Senegal’s Saint-Louis Hospital launched in 2013. More than 30 tons of medical and nursing materials have been given to the Senegalese hospital. Several IUCT-Oncopole professionals came and trained Saint-Louis teams :

  • On human factors methods (from aeronautics) in order to improve surgery care – Dr Philippe Izard, anesthetists
  • On sterilization and hygiene with 2 theater nurses
  • On coelioscopy technique by surgeon Gwenaël Ferron.

4 Senegalese practitioners were trained as auxiliary in 2017 and 2018.
