From information appointment to personalized treatment program

What are the stages of your treatment program?

-    The appointment with a physician
-    If needed, scheduling additional tests to reach a diagnosis
-    Analysis of your medical situation at a multidisciplinary meeting. A team of specialists meets to decide on the treatment strategy most suited to your case. A consultant is appointed to monitor  your entire treatment program.
-    The information appointment: its purpose is to present your treatment program to you, to explain the treatment and to answer your questions.  
-    Treatment
You may be hospitalized at the IUCT Oncopole or receive treatment as an outpatient   in the day hospital services. The Institute has services suited to all treatment arrangements.  Your treatment  will be  interspersed with appointments with physicians and caregivers.  During your treatment, healthcare professionals  with numerous different skills areas  may provide you with supportive care:

 -     Follow-up
At the end of your treatment program, the medical team will hold a meeting with you to set out the follow-up program best suited to your medical situation.

During your stay, you will see physicians on a regular basis. Your primary care physician will be informed of your state of health. The consultant of the Institute may also see him/her. All your information is considered confidential.
Medical confidentiality prohibits disclosing your health information to third parties. For safety reasons, it is not unusual for you to be asked to provide proof of identity on a frequent basis. Your active participation complements the vigilance of professionals in this area. Therefore, do not hesitate:

- to check the accuracy of your identity throughout treatment;

- to ensure that hospital staff check your identity before any diagnostic or therapeutic procedure;

- to present the ID card given to you on admission.

 

Your primary care physician
He/she is involved in your treatment program and remains your medical contact outside the Institute. Each report will be sent to him/her and he/she will be informed of your follow-up. It is up to your primary care physician to make the request for long term illness support (ALD) from the health insurance fund. He/she may prescribe or renew your usual treatment and your sick leave. Remember to report any change of primary physician or changes in contact details when you come to the hospital.
