Regional Oral Anticancer Therapeutic Education program
The Regional Oral Anticancer Therapeutic Education Program was drawn up in collaboration with patients and private practitioners and is coordinated by the IUCT Oncopole. Covering all the départements of the former Midi-Pyrénées Region, its aim is to bring the hospital closer to patients’ homes.
The oral anticancer therapeutic education program provides support to patients who are receiving oral anticancer treatments (oral chemotherapy – targeted therapies – hormone therapies). This support helps patients:
- Take stock of what they have learnt during their treatment;
- Share their preconceptions about their treatment;
- Understand the link between their treatment and the disease;
- Understand their treatment guidelines and their prescription;
- Do the right things at the right time;
- Find the determination to continue the treatment, for their health and for their daily lives.
The healthcare professionals who run the program’s workshops include physicians, pharmacists and nurses trained in therapeutic education.
They use a wide variety of teaching materials and games, such as quizzes inspired by Trivial PursuitR , photolanguage, decision circles, and decisional balances, etc.
